The petroleum and natural gas industry dominates the market of molecular sieve manufacturers. Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is one of the main conversion technologies in refineries. Currently, FCC produces most of the world's fuels and also generates a large amount of propylene for the polymer market. Many refineries adopt different conversion technologies, and some even have more than one catalytic cracking unit. Catalytic cracking units are also the main producers of propylene, and to a lesser extent, they serve as raw materials for petrochemical processes and supply gasoline. New developments in the supply of raw materials such as shale oil, natural gas, and tight oil, the exploration of increasing the utilization of renewable resources, and changes in petroleum demand have led to the need to improve the selectivity of the catalytic cracking cycle. This progress has sparked new interest in new types of molecular sieves, layered porous molecular sieves, and the stability of molecular sieves used in catalytic cracking. Due to the high adsorption capacity of molecular sieves, the petroleum industry uses them in the filtration process. These sieves are used for dehydrating and purifying gases such as propane and butane. These desiccants are also used to remove mercaptans, H₂S, CO₂, and other natural gas particles. They are ideal for dehydrating natural gases containing aromatic compounds such as propane, methane, and ethanol. Humidity and other contaminants can corrode equipment, resulting in low usage efficiency and a decline in product quality. The development of oil and gas exploration will support the development of molecular sieves.


Molecular sieves serve as effective absorbents for gases and liquids. Active molecular sieves with a unique structure help a variety of systems to remove unwanted gas or liquid impurities to a large extent.
